By Miami standards, Friday night's concert was a wild grand time.

The night was highlighted by Marc Anthony's 43rd birthday, the murmurs of his post-Jennifer Lopez divorce and alleged feud with Will Smith, which seemed resolved at the previous Monday night's Miami Dolphins game [9/12/11].

Anthony received a minute-long standing birthday salutation from the crowd and performers in his musical ensemble. Afterwards, he dropped to his knees and thanked God for his blessings.

The last time Marc Anthony was at the American Airlines Arena – also known as the “Triple A,” he sang the National Anthem during Game 6 of the NBA Finals in June of this year, which didn’t exactly end well for the home team. This time around, it was an at-home feeling all around for the Grammy Award winner.

Anthony opened the show with “I Need to Know” before he dove into his Spanish hits including “Valio La Pena” and “Ahora Quien.” He spent more time dancing, moving back and forth across the stage, than singing, but the crowd didn’t seem to mind.

Anthony is more than a singer, he conducted his musical team with every beat, lowering or magnifying tones with swift hand movements.

Mixing in English hits such as “You Sang to Me,” Anthony kept himself and his fans dancing and clapping. Anthony is more than a singer, he conducted his musical team with every beat, lowering or magnifying tones with swift hand movements.

Later, the King of Salsa proved he could still sing with his newest collaboration – the ever popular “Rain Over Me.”

Bad press, good press, no press – it was not a concern for Anthony on Friday night, the first of two consecutive Downtown Miami performances for a 17,000-plus crowd.
