Monterrey Club

Review, Photos and Video by Leah S. Pritchett

A familiar face appeared in the crowd, a young woman with dazzling hot pink highlights, dressed in a black trench coat and a guitar in hand walked to the stage. A green light appeared over her glistening hair as she strung her acoustic guitar, giving the impression that the light awakened something mystical within this beautiful rocker. After introducing herself as Alexx Calise, she immediately broke into her signature female empowerment songs, “Break Me” and “Good Enough.”

I couldn’t resist the infectious tunes and found myself singing along and rejoicing with the tattooed misfits swarming around the Monterrey Club roaring and toasting to one another with cheap beer.

Complete and utter silence fell over the once rowdy audience as she sang one my favorites, “Morning Pill,” which was featured on the hit CW drama, “One Tree Hill.” Calise held the room hypnotized, showing off an incredible vocal range. The crowd applauded thunderously after every song, indulging themselves in her aura. You could hear the whispers of amazement throughout the entire bar.

The Florida native also performed a couple of songs from her side project, The Sound of Cancer, along with an old tune from her high school band, whose members were in attendance.

You can't deny the aptitude of this woman’s musical talent. Her vocals are simply awe-inspiring and the way she makes love to the guitar is absolutely intoxicating; she leaves you begging for more. It’s no surprise that her most recent track, “Release Me”, will be featured in an upcoming motion picture.

The rock star princess just released her new album In Avanti which has already received praise from music critics.
