On January 22, the Planet America Tour, featuring Freshman 15, The Status, and The Alumni Club, stopped by Pembroke Pines’ the Talent Farm. Local acts Space Station 5, A New Hope, and London Heights jumped on the show as well.
Opening up was Space Station 5. The band started off on a high note with their punk sound and even though the lead singer and guitarist, Richard Buznego, tried to pump up the crowd, everyone seemed like listless zombies.
Next up was A New Hope, their name inspired by the Blink-182 song of the same name; brought their hardcore breakdowns which featured metal roars from Zack Edwards. Unfortunately, their age and experience was apparent through their music and lack of stage presence.
Greg (The Alumni Club) serenaded many of the girls, melting countless hearts and pumping fans to dance and chant "America!" in support of the country and the name of the tour.
After that painful performance The Alumni Club shifted gears back to what was expected: pop punk. “First person to stand here will get a free CD,” said vocalist, Greg, pointing to the front of the stage. After only a few people were brave enough to move, he called the rest of the crowd forward as the band began to play. Taking the stage next was The Status. Though the fans had been more excited for the Alumni Club, The Status changed whatever expectations the crowd previously had of the band. A few drunks in the crowd kept the theme of screaming “America” going throughout their set. The band gave a confident and strong performance.
Before realizing that Freshman 15 was about to start, guitarist Rob Felicetti marched out sporting his guitar, asking why everyone wasn’t inside. As he came back inside and jumped on stage, the band was playing at full force. Freshmen 15 had everyone singing along with their cover of Blink-182’s “First Date.” Though the band is known for their raunchy and playful humor they continually stated how ‘punk’ they were after every performance. The boys of Freshman 15 are hilarious their music is absolutely amazing.

Closing up the night was Miami locals London Heights. Different from the pop punk sound of the other bands, London Heights brought an alternative sound. Hearing them for the first time, I could only think of Maroon 5. Coincidentally, three songs into their set they performed “Harder To Breathe” by Maroon 5. Despite flubbing on the lyrics, it was hard not to think of the song as beautiful thanks to vocalist Andrew London’s voice. For a fairly new local band, London Heights surprised me, ending up being the perfect closer for the night.
