Motion City Soundtrack is a band that’s earned their place among the pop punk greats, and the line at Culture Room on Thursday, April 22nd proved it. The fans lined up in two separate lines that wrapped around the venue. It was a sight to behold as I waited for over an hour outside in line!
Once inside, the crowd was going wild waiting for the first band, Sing It Loud The band started their set with “No One Can Touch Us” off their debut album and continued with all the best aspects of a good pop-punk band. They interacted with the crowd and cracked hilarious jokes, and as they launched into their next song, it was apparent that these kids knew exactly what they were doing. Vocalist Pat Brown’s flailing and flinging his guitar around as he played really showed off the raw energy he had and the love for music. As Brown told me before the show, “It’s like, I used to be a fan of what I’m doing now, and that’s one of the coolest things.” They ended their set with “Come Around,” which was the single featured on the Warped Tour Sampler this year. The crowd went completely wild, singing along to every word.

After the amazing set played by Sing It Loud, the next band ran out on stage. A Rocket To the Moon played an OK set with a very can-do attitude. It wasn’t anything too memorable, but it definitely was not bad. The band put on a good performance, but my main issue with them was that they sounded just like every other band you’d typically find on Warped Tour. They closed their set with “Baby Blue Eyes” to an adoring crowd.
Now that A Rocket To The Moon was done with their set, it was time for FUN! Literally. Fronted by Nate Ruess, formerly of The Format, everyone in the house seemed to already know what to expect. They played songs like “All The Pretty Girls” and “The Gambler,” making the crowd move with the vigor and energy of the performers! Ruess commanded the crowd’s attention and was very outgoing in making them feel like they were the main event. He even called out some applause for Motion City Soundtrack.
The crowd echoed back every word without missing a beat. Pierre and his band mates put on a masterful show, all leading up to the final track of their encore which was “Let’s Get F**ked Up and Die.”

The night was beginning to wind down as vocalist Justin Pierre of Motion City Soundtrack stepped onto the stage. The crowd swarmed with anticipation with the biggest wave of applause I’ve ever heard for Pierre. His band mates joined him on stage with their tour manager Brian Southall, who is also the guitarist for The Receiving End of Sirens and Isles and Glaciers. The band started off with some of the new stuff from My Dinosaur Life, their new album, and the crowd was digging the set, dancing vigorously for every song. After that they played “Everything is Alright” and continued on with some of their older material. The crowd echoed back every word without missing a beat. Pierre and his band mates put on a masterful show, all leading up to the final track of their encore which was “Let’s Get F**ked Up and Die.” The crowd stuck around to show their appreciation as the band walked off stage and then the concert-goers began pouring out of the venue, satisfied and sweaty. Motion City Soundtrack ended up being the perfect end to a perfect night.
