Thursday with Fall of Troy

October 20, 2009
Revolution, Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Review and Photos by: Lauren Laufer

On a Tuesday night up in Fort Lauderdale many people, most of who could actually drink, got together for a night of good music. First to take the stage were new comers to the tour Midnight Masses. With their unique style and soothing riffs, they got the crowd really engaged. Personally not having heard of them prior to this show, I was shocked to find out how good they really were. Their style is a mix of old school soulful vocals meshed with a newer sound that just fits them so well.

Next up was the always fun The Dear Hunter. Something interesting about this band was that lead singer Casey Blue, originally known as Casey Crescenzo, formed the band as an outlet for music that didn’t fit his first band’s sound. And if you listen to the Receiving End of Sirens, you’ll see just how different this more narrative and theatrical sounding band is. They had the people there jumping and singing while they waited eagerly for the upcoming bands of the night.

Usually the headliner band would go on last, but this night was different. Right after the Dear Hunter came Thursday. Announcing that they and fellow tour mates Fall of Troy had some transportation issues, they decided to switch time slots for the night, which had Thursday fans excited to say the least. Playing a good mix of new and old and jumping around the stage, they put on a performance that was so electrifying; I even wanted to jump in the middle of the crowd.

With a crowd that was slowly filing out, the Fall of Troy took the stage to end the night. With a few apologies about being late, they jumped right into their set with enthusiasm. The fans that did stay were in for a real treat with their set; it was exciting, and they played like they didn’t have any problems prior to the show.

It was a good night of music, and even with all the problems the headlining bands seemed to have they pulled together and put on an incredible show.
