Nonpoint
with Dharmata, Beauty to the Moon, and Simple Kill
December 26, 2009
Revolution Live, Ft. Lauderdale, FL

Local hardcore band, Nonpoint, was home for the holidays this year. As a treat, the band decided to give a present to their fans, putting on a show the day after Christmas. Also feeling the holiday cheer were Dharmata, Beauty to the Moon, and Simple Kill.
Three hours before the show began, the line was already expanding out towards the parking lot. As a little pre-show surprise, Beauty to the Moon entertained the waiting crowd, playing acoustically and fooling around as anxious and excited fans watched and took pictures.

Ol Dirty Sanchez of Dharmata
Opening band, Dharmata, kicked off the night and introduced us to the hardcore metal sound to come. Though the majority of the crowd was anticipating Nonpoint, Dharmata made sure their name was known, getting the crowd to chant their name and emphasizing the lack of the pronunciation of the "h."
Up next was Beauty to the Moon. Sporting a near-full bottle of Jack Daniels, lead singer, Chris, took a quick swig as the band broke into their first song. In between songs, Chris was generous to share his bottle of Jack with a few fans. While half the crowd was standing back waiting for the headliner, the other half of the crowd began to really get into the music as a mosh pit formed in the back. Despite the screams and strong sound of the band, the beautiful vocal range of Chris separated Beauty to the Moon from the other bands of the night.
Finishing off their set, guitarist Zach Broderick fled the stage and played in the audience. Fans abandoned their spots and flocked to him for a closer view until he crowd-surfed his way back to the stage, playing the whole ride back.

Simple Kill relaxes before the show
With one band to go, Simple Kill took the stage. At this point, the audience was pumped and ready, the whole venue feeling the music. Even though the crowd was feeling the band, it seemed to be more out of anticipation rather than anything else, with a performance that was less than memorable.
Finally, it was time for the band everyone had been waiting for: Nonpoint. After a quick introduction from radio station 103.1's Ross Mahoney, Queen’s "We Will Rock You" began playing, pumping the crowd even more. As everyone was chanting and clapping along, the band kept them waiting, building the anticipation. Finally, Nonpoint slowly took their places and ripped right into "The Wreckoning." Singer Elias Soriano’s strong raspy voice gave the band an edge none of their opening bands had.

Steve of Beauty to the Moon
The entire crowd was singing along as the band played popular songs such as "Bullet With A Name On It" as well as "Alive and Kicking," "March of War" and even a cover of Phil Collins’ "In The Air Tonight." Finishing off their set, guitarist Zach Broderick fled the stage and played in the audience. Fans abandoned their spots and flocked to him for a closer view until he crowd-surfed his way back to the stage, playing the whole ride back. Drummer Robb Rivera was given his time in the spotlight as well as he played a quick solo before running from the stage. Of course, this was not the last of the band as the audience began chanting, "Nonpoint." Rather than the chant dying out, it remained strong until the band was back in their places to pump out a final three songs. With that, the true ‘dirty South show’ (as Chris of Beauty to the Moon had put it) was over, leaving fans to raid and ambush the four bands at the merch tables.
