A cloudy afternoon over Pompano Beach had fans of all ages gathering at the amphitheatre gates with a line stretching out into the parking lot. Fans were here for one of the many great concerts this summer, featuring The Offspring and Sum 41. The venue was jammed with a huge crowd—rain was not stopping this show. The lights dimmed as the rain stopped just in time for Sum 41 to take the stage.

Sum 41 guitarist Tom Thacker and fans

Opening their set with "The Hell Song" off Does This Look Infected, the band took to the stage with energy and force. Without any hesitation, they called for fans to join them onstage to sing along and dance during "We're All To Blame" and "In Too Deep." One of the highlights of their set was watching singer and guitarist Deryck Whibley run around the stage with his wireless microphone and guitar, calling for the 41 salute every chance he could. "Tonight's the last night of this amazing tour. Let's go out partying," Whibley called out as lead guitarist Tom Thacker dove to the barricade to perform his solo during "In Too Deep." Not slowing down the pace of their set, Sum 41 kept it filled with their brand of fast-paced punk hits, closing with "Still Waiting," where Whibley dove to the barricade with mic stand in hand to let the crowd sing the last song of the night. Deryck, Tom and bassist Cone McCaslin bounced around the stage to Steve Jocz's drum beats.

Thanks to Noodles’ roaring guitar riffs and solos along with Greg K ripping out his bass riffs while backing Dexter's flawless vocals, The Offpsring made it seem as if no time has passed since their last South Florida performance.

Greg and Dexter of The Offspring

Finding myself hyped now for The Offspring, I made my way around the grounds to people watch, finding fans of all ages rushing down the steps of the amphitheater to grab the best spots available. After a short set change and an entertaining sing along to Sublime and Johnny Cash, I made my way down to the front. Just like Sum 41, The Offspring kicked it off with a bang, as drummer Pete Parada kicked off their set to "Stuff Is Messed Up." With the crowd singing along, singer Dexter Hollands joined the crowd up on the barricade.

The Offspring brought all their tricks to the stage, with classic hits such as "The Kids Aren't Alright" to new hits such as "You’re Gonna Go Far Kid,” never slowing down their pace or energy on stage. Thanks to Noodles’ roaring guitar riffs and solos along with Greg K ripping out his bass riffs while backing Dexter's flawless vocals, The Offpsring made it seem as if no time has passed since their last South Florida performance. During the band's short intermission, their guitar techies came out to juggle and start the wave as beach balls made their way across the amphitheatre’s crowd.

Coming back out to close the night, The Offspring ended their impressive set with "Self Esteem," which had the crowd holding nothing back as they cheered and showed their love for the song. The Offspring closed their tour with such energy and passion that it stands as one of the top shows of my summer so far.
