By now you’ve probably gotten your fix of fun-in-the-sun. And if you’re hiding out at the mall worshiping the all-powerful AC god, then we need to chat. There’s a little site conquering South Floridian’s hearts (and bellies!). If you haven’t heard of Yelp, then you’re truly clueless as to what’s really hot.
In a nutshell, Yelp is a forum where locals review and voice their thoughts on all types of businesses from hairstylists to restaurants to nightlife and yes, shopping. And boy! do South Floridians know how to tell it straight up.

For me, it was love at first yelp. I love the fact that reviews are written by real people who are not afraid to voice their opinions. Comments are fresh and insightful! And unlike ordinary reviews, I don’t just have to take reviews at face value, but I too can have a say in it. The really cool thing about it is that it’s more than just a bunch of people writing reviews—it’s a community. You can invite your friends to join and make friends on the site.

Their events page is my new bff. It instantly puts you in the-know of tons of local happenings. You can use it to plan your social calendar weeks in advance or as a last minute life-savior when your plans fall through. And if you’re planning a trip, chances are there’s a localyelp for the city you’re visiting.
If you still haven’t logged on, now is an especially good time to visit yelp.com. Be sure to check out Yelp Eats Restaurant Week. From Monday, July 20 through Sunday, July 26 restaurants will offer a special 3-course prixe fixe menufor $25 (+ tax and tip) dinners. Can all my fellow fatties out there say AMEN!
