Brannon Powers was destined to embrace the music scene. Powers, an Arkansas native, grew up in Missouri, surrounded by music as part of his family events.
"It was always around the house. My brother played, so I started to pick up a couple of cords and went from there," Powers said.
As Powers began to get older, he started writing songs—an art form he felt helped him express himself. "In the 8th grade, I wrote my first song for a girl I liked. Writing keeps my attention without trying so hard. It’s like a natural high," he said. "The payoff at the end is the best part. Finishing a song is worth it. Staring down at a finished song is like looking at a work of art. A masterpiece."
Powers later transitioned from just writing to actually playing, teaching himself to strum beautiful melodies on the guitar. But Powers wanted more than just expression; he wanted to share his music with everyone. He dreamed of recording, so he took a trip to Hawaii meeting up with producer Eric Helmkamp.

But getting into the music industry was not all that easy for him. "I have been trying to become a professional for 10 years. Working and dealing with the music industry was a challenge."
Things are starting to pick up for Powers. He has a few singles out, and one also appeared on the series Sorority Forever. One song he favors is "Heads or Tails." "It's when a relationship is at a point where you don’t know how to fix it, and you don’t have the energy to fix it," he said. As an artist, Powers writes so that others can relate to him. With a new album out and his tour with Kate Voegele, the sky is the limit.
And for those who are young and trying to make it, Powers gave a little advice on how to reach that goal: "You need to present yourself in a good manner. The first impression is important. If you're not a writer, its best to pair up with someone who is. Also it's not just about getting your music into the right hands, but getting it around to people like you and me. They make you who you are. And last make sure on your first track, you do your best."
No dreams are too big; he is living proof that all you need is strength and willpower.
