Hellogoodbye

Nov. 1st • Culture Room • Ft. Lauderdale

Article and Photos by Kevin Allen

When Hellogoodbye comes to town you must drop everything, search you couch for extra cash and get to the venue their playing ASAP. Ok, that may be a bit of an exaggeration, so let’s just say that the money you spend on tickets to their show is money very well spent.

I have never seen The Culture Room as packed as it was that night. Even though the opening acts were performing, people just kept pouring in.

Christofer Drew a.k.a Never Shout Never was the first act and had more than half of the crowd singing along to his poppy-acoustic music and lyrics; that are upbeat and easy to relate to. He definitely had the attention of all the girls who shrieked (in a good way) every time he hit a high note or screamed in happiness when he smiled.

Up next was Ace Enders, no stranger to the South Florida scene; this being his fourth trip since 2008 started. He began with an explosive cover of a song everyone knew, Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve. From that point on he had the audience in the palm of his hand as he played songs from his upcoming album When I Hit The Ground.

Ace’s faster and up tempo songs was the perfect transition from Never Shout Never’s mellow sound to the band everyone was waiting for, Hellogoodbye.

The pop-synth sound that Hellogoodbye is known for was the pefect music ofr everyone to dance to and for hose who were more reserved at least bob their head to. Among the most crowd pleasing tunes were "Here In Your Arms", "Shimmy Shimmy Quarter Turn", and "Baby It’s Fact".

For a moment during the show lead singer Forrest Kline asked the crowd what they dressed as for Halloween. Someone said "Pikachu!" another said "A banana!" Forrest said "Last night we (the band) dressed all in drag. Some people call it Halloween, we call it a Friday night".

After a few more jokes the music continued, so did the dancing and the endless appreciation for the band the crowd displayed.

When the show was over, after the encore performance the crowd demanded, the band stepped off the stage and began signing autographs, giving hugs and taking photos with their loyal fans.
