Senior Editor's Note

By Cristina Jaramillo

It’s finally happened. Senioritis has hit me full force. I’m totally done with school, mentally that is. I still have 2 months and 11 days before graduation but all I can think about is all the things I’m going to do when I return to Miami and all the fun things I need to do before I leave Boston.

I’m excited about going back home, to familiar sights and people. I’m ecstatic about being able to eat real Cuban sandwiches and have a cortadito or espresso at 3 pm, when I need a jolt of energy the most. I can’t wait to drive to the beach where no matter what the temperature will always be above 60 degrees. But most of all, I can’t wait to be immersed in Miami culture again - certainly something I didn’t fully appreciate until I was away from it.

And while I’m super excited about my return to Miami, I’m also nostalgic about leaving Boston, the place that I’ve called home for the past two years and where I’ve met so many amazing people. A city where you don’t need a car to get around - where public transportation actually gets you places in time. If you can believe that! With one third of its population made up of twenty/thirty somethings, it’s easy to feel comfortable. There are music venues to please all music lovers and Broadway shows to delight your inner-hidden theatre geek, not to mention a pizza joint every 3 blocks. Beantown has been my playground and I’m going to miss it terribly.

But while I’m still here I plan on living it up - which is exactly what has me in this predicament. With 2 months and 11 days to go, my professor’s once eloquent lectures have suddenly been transformed into episodes of Charlie Brown and Snoopy. Have you ever tried to decipher Whaaaa Whaaaa Whaaa? Meanwhile, impeding questions boggle my mind, like who else I should invite to happy hour on Friday or how to convince my sister to come to Boston for Spring Break so we can take a road trip to Canada.

And so the truth is that I can no longer focus on school. But on a positive note, my procrastination has caused me to catch up on world events, politics, and entertainment news. It baffles me to see some of the things currently going on around the world to which I’ve been oblivious for the past couple of months. Some times we get so wrapped up with school and our personal lives that we forget to look outside our own little universe.

At OUTLOUD we get ‘cha, because it happens to us too! That’s why we try to bring you a condensed version of significant world and entertainment news. So even if you are day dreaming about post-graduation festivities, like me, you can at least be a well informed college student with a severe case
