Chiodos on their fans and Miami’s heat

By Leah Pritchett

Yee-haw! Texas natives, Chiodos came down to Miami for the first time since their last tour, Taste of Chaos, to play Warped. Their witty and very funny drummer, Derrick Frost, took time out of his busy schedule, (which consisted of him in an air conditioned tour bus, reading a horror a novel, Jack and Jill,) to speak with OUTLOUD about the band’s pervious tour and experience so far on this year’s Warped tour.

"Taste of Chaos was awesome. It’s always different when you play inside then outside. It's fuckin’ hot every time I come to Miami. I love the gangsters here, do you love the gangsters here?" joked Frost as he took my mic and controlled the interviewed for quite a bit.

As we spoke about Miami and the tons of weirdos that live here, Frost compared his experience at Warped to last year.

We only played for like two weeks, and we didn't play in Miami. Now we are playing the whole tour and like no one wants to hang out. I'm sure when it gets colder, we'll have much more fun."

After rambling quite a bit about New York and overrated cities, Frost spoke about their Texas fans and how they have a huge Hispanic fan base over there. Their fans are loyal and really don't seem to care about anything. "Man our fans over there are insane, seriously, we love it!" he said.

I asked Frost how he felt about Warped Tour going green, and if he is doing anything to help this tour. "I'm all about going green, like the drummer from My American Heart [Steven Oira], walking around and picking up trash. It’s just good to keep the environment clean. I don't like to walk around in a field with trash everywhere. It kinda kills the whole vibe."

Since Warped tour is such a hot, exhausting tour, you'd think bands would want to take a break, but not for these boys. They are headlining their own tour from September to November, featuring bands like Scary Scary Kids, Emery and Devil Wears Prada.
