Ricky Martin opens the Fillmore Miami Beach
Megastar Ricky Martin, famous for “Livin’ La Vida Loca” and inspiring William Hung, was the first performer to hit the stage at the new Fillmore Miami Beach. As thanks, Miami Beach Mayor David Dermer presented Martin with the key to the city.
The Latin pop star performed for three days as part of his Black and White Tour.
The Fillmore Miami Beach is a renovation of the Jackie Gleason Theater that was introduced by Live Nation, the major production company behind many concerts and tours.
The Miami Beach venue is the sixth installment of the Fillmore brand. It originated in the ’60s when famous rock concert promoter Bill Graham opened one in San Francisco. The venue hosted legendary acts such as Grateful Dead, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and many more. The Fillmore continued on in New York but it was closed in the ’70s.
Live Nation has since announced that it will expand the Fillmore franchise to Philadelphia, Detroit and, of course, Miami Beach.
