The Indie Pit
West Palm Beach
February 17th

By Jamie Zabludowski

As I pulled up to the Indie Pit, I was amazed at how many unfamiliar faces I was seeing. I attend most of the local rock shows in Miami, so it was a shock to me that there was a new mix of kids eagerly awaiting Foxy Shazam’s set.

The boys of the eclectic band from Cincinnati consist of singer Eric Nally, keyboardist Sky White, guitarist Loren Turner, bassist Daisy and drummer Teddy. They bring a new and unique sound to today’s music, mixing screams with soul and rockabilly, and their live set is just as deliciously distinct. Nally has a way of captivating his fans, so don’t expect a normal four-piece band standing around shaking their heads up and down. Instead, expect keyboardist White to bring out his deer hooves and start dancing on his keyboard; expect Nally to climb up on the ceiling and start doing sit ups.

I asked Nally where his inspiration for writing songs and his onstage banter comes from, to which he responded, “What I say in-between songs is just off the top of my head, and I think it sounds real cool. And the lyrics to the songs are about an island that I made up, called Limousine Door. I don’t really have influences in music either. My influences are things like family, friends and France!”

Over the past few years, Foxy Shazam has become a household name. Kids all over the country know who they are. And the band is on a mission—to make it to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. “I won’t die till I am in there,” Nally says.
