Mindless Self Indulgence

Mindless Self Indulgence (for those people living in a diminutive bubble) is a New York based band, with a sound that fuses Electronica with punk and alternative undertones, with remarkable lead vocals by the outrageous Jimmy Urine.
As I arrived at Revolution, I was amazed to see the line extend from the club, bend around the parking lot and end on Broward Boulevard, more than an hour before doors opened, mind you. Even though this was the third time in 2 years that MSI has been down to Miami, I shouldn't have expected anything less from their diehard fans, myself included. Just Imagine 90% of Hot Topic's best customers, with a few ordinary people peppered into the crowd, and you have MSI's fan base.
After the doors finally opened, I immediately worked my way onto the floor and got as close as possible to the stage, waiting a good hour and a half before Kill Hannah, the opening band, took the stage. Most people were sitting through Kill Hannah's performance like you sit through church–mildly entertained but waiting for something better, waiting for MSI. The band and their performance in it's entirety seemed clichÈ and hackneyed to me, been there done that. Front man Mat Devine's vocals sound like every other "Emo" band out there, with predictable songs such as "Lips Like Morphine" and "Boys and Girls." Their set wasn't the most awful performance, but they definitely seemed unoriginal to me.
Once Kill Hannah finished and abandoned the stage, so did some of their fans, and just before MSI was to hit the stage, my spot in the first row right behind the barricades was secured. Once again, everyone was in for a long wait. About an hour later the lights went down. A roar of screams and shrieks filled the club. A loud chant fashioned through the crowd, "MSI! MSI! MSI."
As soon as Kitty stationed herself at the drums, Steve strapped on his guitar, and the always-gorgeous Lyn Z grabbed a hold of her bass, a horde of people tried to swarm the front and inch their way closer to the stage. Needless to say, the crowd was uncontrollable and ever so anxious for the show to finally begin. Once again everyone participated in a chant, " JIMMY! JIMMY!"
And after all the hype and all the wait, the person everyone had come to see, the one they call Little Jimmy Urine rushed the stage and initiated the show with "Shut Me Up."
He continued the set with "Bitches," an infamous song in which not one person in the place wasn't singing along to: "Bitches love me cause they know that I can rock." Yes indeed Jimmy Urine, all the bitches love you because they know you can rock the crowd harder than anyone else. Who else can captivate an audience by climbing up the walls, jumping in the crowd and then spitting on them, and have people still absolutely adore them for it! They went on with the show playing such favorites as "Stupid MF" "What do they know" "Kill the Rock" and "Molly," finishing out the first part of their set with "Uncle."
Due to crazy, over obsessive fans, apparently the band felt no need to actually play their song "Bring The Pain." Instead they found it necessary to put their instruments down and let the crowd sing the song themselves in a fascinating a capella rendition! And what other song would be better to follow this crowd-participation wave than "Faggot," a personal favorite. But then again I don't think there is a single MSI fan that doesn't consider "Faggot" one of their favorite songs.
They moved onto songs like "Clarissa" and "Backmask" and by this time, Jimmy had a stuffed wolf on stage as his very own sex puppet–could you expect anything less from him? Mr. Urine himself can be described as crude, offensive, creative and ingenious, and there's not a chance in hell MSI fans would have it any other way.
And to show Jimmy's eclectic music play list, he brought up The Notorious B.I.G. telling the crowd that he is undoubtedly better than Tupac Shakur, and followed this information with his interpretation of "Big Papa"! And eventually the band ended the set with "Stv." They came back out for an encore, and couldn't have picked a better song to perform than "I Hate Jimmy Page" while dousing the audience in Maple Syrup. After they left the stage, about a half hour later they came back to sign autographs. And yes ladies, if you want, hand Jimmy Urine a "Jackson" (20 dollar bill) and you too can swap spit with Mr. Urine himself, the definition of crude. And I say xrude in the best way possible of course.
There is not a chance you can go to an MSI concert and not be completely awestruck and captivated by their show. They combine fast pace electro music with an energy that not even 10 Redbulls can give you. Their vibe is vulgar and awesome and no matter what you think about them, they just don't care and continue to do whatever they please.
