North Korea faces United Nations sanctions after completing nuclear bomb test
On Oct. 9, North Korea executed an underground nuclear bomb test in spite of protests from the United Nations. China, a major trading country with North Korea, has been unwilling to commit to the U.N.-requested sanctions; however, they are checking trucks going cross the border. Japan and Australia closed their ports to North Korean ships.

Earthquake of magnitude 6.7 rocks the Big Island of Hawaii
On the morning of Oct. 15 Hawaii Island awoke to a powerful earthquake, which was followed by several strong aftershocks. It also caused landslides and collapsing bridges, but no major injuries or death were reported. It's been almost 20 years since the island has experienced any quake of this magnitude.

A 14-year-old Sacramento girl is questioned by Secret Service agents about her "Bush bashing" pages on MySpace.
Julia Wilson got the government's attention with her creative collage on MySpace of a knife stabbing the hand of President Bush with a subtitle of "Kill Bush." Two federal agents showed up at her high school to ask questions. There's a federal law that bans serious threats against the President. Julia has removed her creative artwork.

New Florida law says "make space for bicyclists"
Be careful when passing bicyclists or you just might get a ticket. State lawmakers passed legislation requiring all motorists to leave a 3-foot space when passing bicyclists or face a $118 fine.
