Whatserface: A Name You Won't Forget

Reviewed by: Holly Castillo

WHATSERFACE (n): an amazing band from West Palm beach that mixes rap/hip-hop with rock and infuses incredible lyrics with a message to create an undeniably unique sound.

Whatserface has six one-of-a-kind members who form an interesting and profound sound. Chad Slade and Shay Adams, vocalists, support each other on stage along with Kevin Sanchez, bass, J.C. Lackey, drums, Brett Blackwell, DJ, and Robert Pereira, guitarist.

Their influences stem from all aspects of life. "My influences are drinking, eating and music," stated Chad. "I'm inspired by rap music."

The other members are influenced by anything from Nirvana, Radiohead and Pantera to jazz music. On their down time, they unanimously claimed that they enjoy "drinking, road trips and arguing."

Their main goal in life is to quit their day jobs and pursue music full-time, and to be able to sleep on a bed when they're on the road. Can you blame them? They had the opportunity to play at Hard Rock Live in Orlando and opened for Limp Bizkit in Dallas after winning an online contest.

Five years ago, Whatserface, formerly known as Blindsyde, played their first show, opening for Endo. Other than crowd participation, they look for good sound and a comfortable, large stage for their six-piece band at their shows all across Florida.

They would like their fan base to know that they're "known as the party band."

"We're just fun guys," claimed Chad.

As Shay puts it, "We like to have fun and we're funny. We'll blow your socks off."

Although labeled as a rap/rock or rap/metal band, they play across all music genres. They have a wide variety of musical tastes within the band, which forms a strong bond allowing their music to be completely original and diverse. Their songs all have meaning behind the laughter. The song "H.I.Vehicle" is about a woman who sleeps around and is sure to catch some kind of disease. The lesson? Get tested. They also do an incredible rendition of Kris Kross' "Jump," which always gets the crowd moving.

At their last show at Spanky's in West Palm Beach, they performed "Jump" as their final song. As a result, the entire crowd went up on stage and the band went on the floor and sang up to the audience. These kinds of stage antics had fans screaming for more. The guys are very friendly and approachable, and they enjoy seeing the fans have a good time.

The band jokingly offers advice for their fans.

"Buy our shit. Avoid the Clap. Come to our shows. We suck." But Chad offers the best advice in their song "H.I.Vehicle." Better buckle up or you won't stay alive.

Fortunately, these guys will be around for a long time, cranking out amazing tunes with lessons hidden well beyond the funny lyrics. Soon they will be all over the mainstream world and people will be laughing along to the band's lyrics as they roll in dough. Can't wait to hear their new songs and see their new antics? Make sure you check them out at www.wface.com and see them live. See what they are all about!

*One final note: Whatserface wants it to be known that Rush Lake Hotel in Gainesville has the hardest floor ever. "It's like concrete from another planet." They would know.
