Give
on Thanksgiving With Thanksgiving rolling around the corner, many families are starting to prepare for their festivities, purchasing lavish dishes and nabbing the best turkey in the deli section. Other families, however, are stranded without even the basic food or a traditional turkey. They're often left with just hopelessness. Enter the well-known non-profit community service group Hands On Miami with their latest project "Celebrate National family Volunteer Day," which sports the slogan, "Help make Thanksgiving a happy time for families." And they could use all the hands they can get. This includes teenagers, who often wonder how they can give back to the community. According to Bobbi Wald, the Family Volunteer Program Coordinator for the Hands On Miami, the purpose of the project is to encourage everyone to donate non-perishable food to this program for families who have no food to even celebrate Thanksgiving. "This is a great opportunity for families and teens and anyone to help other families enjoy their Thanksgiving," said Wald. "Plus, family volunteering brings people together as well. That's the spirit of Thanksgiving." Hands On Miami will have their doors open up until November 21st for food donations. Some non-perishable food donations include breads, canned veggies, desserts, and sturdy fresh produce such as potatoes and apples. Wald advises not to donate turkeys because they could spoil. But Hands On Miami won't leave any families turkey-less. All financial donations sent to their office before November 15th will help pay for turkeys that they will give the families. All donations can be sent to the Hands On Miami office at 3250 SW 3rd Avenue. The YWCA and the Haitian neighborhood center, Sant La, will serve the food on Saturday, November 22nd. That same day, from 9:30 to 12:30 p.m., volunteers will assemble the donations into Thanksgiving food baskets for needy families. Wald hopes that many families, teens, and even corporations will realize that it could be their donations that remind needy families why they should be thankful. If H.O.M.'s
