BodyOfOne
Band Profile
By: Holly Castillo
The five-piece eclectic,
alternative hard rock local band BodyOfOne has issued a statement:
They're here to stay. Having two members formerly of the band Encidius,
BodyOfOne is constructed of Josh Jordan (guitar), Danny Staton (bass),
James Carrey (vocals), Carlos Pita (drums) and Lantz Arroyo (keyboard
and samples).
For a band that has only
had its current lineup since February, they sure have gotten their
name out. They have played shows at Churchill's in Miami, were featured
on FIU's station 88.1 FM and are currently working on their first
demo CD.
With influences stemming from bands such as Faith No More, Nine Inch
Nails, Portishead and Radiohead, BodyOfOne has been described as sounding
like Hoobastank, Taproot and Incubus. With song titles such as Past
Perfect, Gravity and A.W.O.L. (A Way of Life), much can be said about
inspiration.
"Composition is a
science. Much of it can be inspired by other forms of art or a life
experience," stated James. "I rarely ever need to veer from
my original melodic ideas; most often than not, your earliest instincts
are the best ones."
The name BodyOfOne can
mean different things to whoever decides to decipher the title. "It
can mean that you are the only one who has control of your body,"
claims Carlos.
Lantz's interpretation
of the name was simply this: "Five different entities coming
together to form one piece of art."
Living in and around Coral
Gables, Pembroke Pines and Sunrise, BodyOfOne is sure to become a
favorite in the local scene. Their new three-song demo will be available
soon, with Realize, Gravity and Past Perfect recorded on it.
